 MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR GENERAL

World Heritage Sites

Culture must be seen as an integral part of our national development framework. It embodies the way of life of our people and is therefore quite diverse.

It is only through the recognition of the cultural dimension of development that our country can chart a course of development that will satisfy the needs and aspirations of The Gambian people.

As a national institution mandated to preserve, promote and develop all aspects of The Gambia's cultural heritage in both its tangible and intangible forms, the NCAC plays a key role in national cultural policy formulation and action. We shall continue to encourage cultural democracy, social inclusion, poverty alleviation and sustainable development in the cultural sphere, paying due attention to the aims and aspirations of Gambian artists in their varied fields of endeavor as well as encouraging the preservation and conservation of that which accounts for our cultural identity as a nation and as a people.

At the NCAC, we are concerned about every bit of The Gambia's history and culture. Hence our website provides information on what we do, the services we offer as well as significant events on The Gambian cultural landscape.

We need as many collaborators and partners as we can find to preserve and develop our rich cultural heritage in its many facets and we enjoin all Gambians to be involved and to take pride in our national cultural heritage.

Our doors are open to all and sundry, so please contact us for any interest, suggestion, or contribution that you might have.

Together, let's carve a future for our past.

Momodou C. Joof
DIRECTOR GENERAL
